Everton looked set to be signing Ireland youth international, David Harrington from Irish league leaders, Cork City but recently the deal has become complicated.

As reported by Danny Owen [via HITC Sport], EFC had placed a bid of around £100,000 to bring Harrington to Merseyside in the summer, with the Irishman seemingly pushing the move as well. However, in a recent game between Cork City and Galway United, Harrington would have to leave the field because of a shoulder injury. This injury would turn out to be more serious than expected, with surgery required and Harrington not expected back until early in 2023.

His move to England is now under question, with the Irishman already going to Finch Farm in the summer to have talks with Frank Lampard, but it is understood that Everton want to make sure he is fully recovered from his injury before they try to progress with the deal any further.

Prior to Harrington’s relatively long-term shoulder injury, Cork City manager, Colin Healy was asked about the goalkeeper’s potential move to Everton: [via Irish Examiner]

“If Harry does go to Everton, he deserves it. Players want to play at the highest level “Everton are a massive club. People don’t realise how big they are.”

The Irish coach also added:

“He’s still with us but let’s see what happens over the next few days.”

It seems that Peter Harrington would still become an impressive signing for the toffees, becoming the long-term backup to Jordan Pickford. With the likes of Asmir Begovic and Andrew Lonergan potentially retiring in the coming seasons, the Cork City No1 and Ireland u21 international could become the potential replacement for the current toffees No1 in coming years, with the £100,000 seeming fairly minimal in the current market.

Do you think this would be a decent signing for the blues?
