Our most recent transfer window has the potential to be one of our best in recent memory. Several players have been acquired that will enhance the quality of our starting eleven, such as Yerry Mina from Barcelona.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a sensational World Cup campaign with Colombia, where he scored three goals for his country, equalling the highest total of goals scored by a defender in a single World Cup tournament. Accordingly, it was hardly surprising to see that the defender was linked with a whole host of prodigious clubs, I’m thrilled that he decided to join us.

His involvement at Barcelona was severely restricted, he only made six appearances in all competitions for the Catalan giants – with five of those appearances being made in the Champions League. Despite that, his exploits at the World Cup illustrated his marvellous talent, and his goal-scoring antics is certainly not a new-found habit.

At the age of 23, Mina has already attained 202 senior appearances and has amassed a highly impressive total of 22 goals – a truly remarkable tally for a defender. The highest total of goals he’s amassed in a single season is five, which is reflective of his potential significance to Everton.

Naturally, as a defender, his primary responsibility is to defend, which he does to a very good standard. But, personally, I feel that his goal-scoring antics is the most pleasing aspect of his game. As much as I hope Cenk Tosun finds his most prolific form this season and rivals Lukaku’s achievements with the club, it’s important that we have players that can contribute to goals from every position. Without question, the arrival of Yerry Mina augments our quality when attacking set-pieces. I expect him to flourish this season, let’s hope he fulfils my expectations.
