Everton women pull off ‘Impressive Win’ in League Cup

|

Everton women jumped to the top of their Women’s League Cup group after a very impressive 3-0 win over Sheffield United with a spirited second-half performance.

The blues have been in poor form recently, losing their last two games to both Manchester sides in the space of two weeks, leaving them in 8th in the Women’s Super League table after 7 games.

However, their start to the League Cup was quite a lot better than their start to the WSL.

The blues played Aston Villa in their first League Cup group game. Despite the game ending 1-1 after 90 minutes thanks to a goal from Agnes Beever-Jones, Everton would win the game 4-2 on penalties earning them a bonus point on top of the point earned from the draw.

Sheffield United, on the other hand, lost their first game in the League Cup on penalties after drawing 3-3 in a thriller with Durham Women FC despite being 2-0 down early in the first half.

The blades would defend well in the first half, but Everton would come out for the second with more intent.

This finally became clear when Katja Snoeijs gave the blues the lead just before the hour mark.

Sheffield United would finally put some pressure on the Everton goal after going behind, but could not take advantage.

Hanna Bennison would punish them 10 minutes before time, and England international, Jessica Park would triple the blue’s lead on 87 minutes, handing her side all 3 points to take home to Merseyside and helping them to jump to 1st in their group.

The toffees face a tough trip to 2nd in the table, Arsenal in their next fixture, hoping to capitalise on their excellent performance in the League Cup.
