Everton women have bounced back successfully after their defeat away from home to Champions, Chelsea after Lucy Graham scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Aston Villa in their 5th match of the new Women’s Super League season.

Everton’s season so far has had quite a few ups and downs, winning 3 and losing 2 of their opening 5 Super League games this season.

After losing their opening fixture narrowly to West Ham after dominating the game overall, the blues won their next two games, one of which being an impressive victory over rivals, Liverpool at Anfield.

The toffees would beat Leicester City 1-0 with a last-minute winner, before losing to losing to Super League Champions of the last two seasons, Chelsea.

Despite this loss, Sorensen’s side would go into this fixture against Aston Villa in high spirits.

Aston Villa would start the match brightly, with former Everton players, Alisha Lehmann and Kenza Dali having good chances to put the Villians ahead in the first half.

Although Villa would put a lot of pressure on the Everton defence, they would be able to hold out the attacks for the first half, with goalkeeper, Courtney Brosnan making a few good saves to keep her side in the game.

The blues would come quickly out of the blocks for the second half, applying lots of pressure to Aston Villa’s back line. Eventually, this pressure would pay off. On 57 minutes, Gabrielle George would break down the left flank, crossing to captain, Lucy Graham, putting her side 1-0 up.

Aston Villa would continue to apply pressure to the Everton backline for the remaining half an hour of the match, but they would manage to hold on to the important 3 points and clean sheet.

This win takes EFC up to 4th in the league, only behind top-spot Manchester United on goal difference in the Women’s Super League table and moves Aston Villa down to 6th.
