Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson has been ruled out of Iceland’s international action with Belgium owing to the ankle injury he picked up in last weekend’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Heading to Stamford Bridge for the game before football takes a pause for the November Nations League fixtures and friendlies, we battled to a scoreless draw on the day with a strong defensive showing but Sigurdsson did sustain an ankle knock during the match, and despite playing on, he did limp off with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game.

The player was set for a scan yesterday to determine the severity of the issue, and he left the ground in a protective boot but hopefully that will prove to be precautionary more than a real indication of time on the sidelines and he’ll be fit and raring to go for Cardiff City later on in the month.

Missing the first international affair, I’d be amazed if he joined up with them for the Qatar friendly.
