Last night we saw the club confirm that Jordan Pickford had signed a new long-term deal with the club.
The goalkeeper has started very well for us since signing for Sunderland last year and became the country’s number 1 keeper in time for the World Cup.
He shone, too, with some massive saves during the summer and this season we have seen again why he is so highly-rated.
A few mistakes might have crept in this year, of course, but that can happen and on the whole he is certainly one of the best in the league.
The deal, then, underlines our ambition as a club once more to keep our best talent because, perhaps a few years ago, we might have ended up losing the former Black Cat.
That shouldn’t be happening now, though, and so I’m looking forward to seeing the defence that is built with him in it.
