Everton to be rocked by transfer move for Silva mainstay – report

|

Marco Silva rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s advances for Idrissa Gana Gueye in the winter, but the boss is set to be put to the test again, as France Football, via Sport Witness, have reported that the Ligue 1 giants are still monitoring our midfield anchor.

Rumours linking Gueye with a move to the French capital rocked Goodison Park in January, and the situation even reached a point where Silva threatened to resign if the Senegal international was sold.

Thankfully, more so for our sake at the time, Marcel Brands held off on sanctioning the sale for a reported £26.2million, as Gueye has continued to be a mainstay in our side, even though he spoke at ease on his disappointment at missing out on joining a Champions League outfit.

In fact, our 63-cap international only missed the immediate two league games after PSG first made a move for his services in January, and has played all but 14 of a possible 1080 minutes in the Premier League since.

Unfortunately, France Football have reported in their latest edition that Paris Saint-Germain are still monitoring Gueye and ‘could become hot [on his case] again’ in the summer.

Gueye’s arrival at Les Parc des Princes would likely have been as the successor to Adrien Rabiot, who has been frozen out of Thomas Tuchel’s first-team after rejecting a string of contract proposals with his current deal expiring in the summer.

That situation has not changed since, only the urgency the former Borussia Dortmund manager will have in adding a ball-winning midfielder to his ranks, after PSG mutually agreed to prematurely terminate Lassa Diarra’s contract in February with the Frenchman sidelined with a knee injury – the 34-year-old has since retired.

France Football also state that Tuchel ‘appreciates’ what Gueye is capable of, but thankfully is not the only option the German and his title-winning outfit are considering.
