Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton Diaz has been perpetually linked with a move to Goodison Park in recent months, and as the January transfer window approaches, there are likely to be many more rumours surrounding the player’s future in the coming weeks.

It is no secret that Frank Lampard will be in the market for a striker next month, and the in-form Chilean international could provide the goalscoring boost that the club so desperately needs.

Indeed, with 22 goals in 37 games throughout the 2021/22 season, the Rovers forward is likely to have caught the attention of a host of clubs, especially as his contract at the Lancashire club is set to expire at the end of the campaign.

However, Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has reiterated that Diaz will not be sold in January, unless an offer arrives that the club cannot refuse.

The Danish manager said,When I speak with Ben, I think he is very happy here at the moment. Of course, for him, it is maybe not the best choice for him to go to another club halfway through the season.

“It’s not always the best choice but at the end of the day, it’s about the opportunity and whether they come with a very high amount that we can’t say no to. We don’t know, nobody knows.

“If it’s a low offer, we will say no immediately. You never know what will happen in football, I’d love for the lad to sign a contract and stay with me.”

Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell will have been preparing for this window for many months, and has reportedly drawn up a list of targets alongside Frank Lampard, with strengthening the attacking options likely to be a priority.

Despite Tomasson’s comments, with such little time remaining on Diaz’s current deal, the attacker is likely to become available in the January window, as Rovers may well look to receive a fee rather than see their player leave for nothing in the summer.
