Everton star’s supportive claims may not go down too well with the Goodison Park faithful – report

Marco Silva’s time in charge of Everton could soon be over, but not if the players have anything to do with it, as Michael Keane has been quoted by the Express as saying that the Portuguese head coach retains the support of the dressing room.

It would have come as no shock to anyone had the players lost faith in Silva, as the former Watford manager has not been able to implement his style of play at Goodison Park successfully, and the defence is particularly shaky.

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is also being touted as a leading contender to replace Silva at Goodison Park if the axe does fall, as Everton are currently struggling to get results over the line and could slip outside the top ten once games in hand are played elsewhere.

Regardless of the slump in results that have seen Everton secure 11 points from their last 14 games and crash out of the FA Cup, Keane believes retaining Silva and the foundations he has planted is what is needed for the Toffees to grow.

“We all rate the manager and we’re all pulling for him. I think he’s doing a good job, but things aren’t going for him at the minute,” the five-cap international said. “Lots of managers in football go through bad spells, but sometimes the best way ahead is to stick with them and they come out the other side.

“Stability is important at any football club because the routine becomes more normal, more entrenched, players and staff get to know each other a bit more and, as that unity takes root, you grow more as a team.

“The manager has brought some brilliant players in and he’s laid some good foundations. We’re right behind him.”

Keane’s words may frustrate a large proportion of the Goodison Park faithful who would be within their rights to want a change of leadership if Silva cannot turn things around soon.
