Everton stalling exit for player

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Blues are not going to let Maarten Stekelenburg go anywhere this summer at least until Jordan Pickford returns from Russia.

The veteran Dutch stopper has been linked with a move away this summer with the likes of Lille mentioned as interested parties.

Certainly, you’d imagine we’re not that averse to letting him go if the right replacement can be found but for now we’re stalling his exit until the England man comes back to Finch Farm.

After he does, of course, things could change but with Stekelenburg still our number 2 you could see him staying put unless we find and understudy for England’s number 1.

The Verdict

It’s a wise and expected decision from the Blues.

We need to prepare for the new campaign and with a lack of senior goalkeeper that would be a bit of a problem.

Keeping Stekelenburg around for the time being at least, makes sense.
