Rumours linking Everton with Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley have been strong throughout the summer.

Talk that Everton could use their position in UEFA’s Europa League to convince Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley to make the move to Merseyside has been doing the rounds for a few months now.

Manchester United’s dismal failure under former Everton manager David Moyes has seen the former Premier League champions fail to qualify for both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League next season.

With Everton finishing 5th last season, that now gives Roberto Martinez a selling point to potential players who may want to make the move to Goodison Park.

One of those players could well be Tom Cleverley.

The 24-year-old who was on stand-by for England’s World Cup squad could be available as he has just twelve months remaining on his contract.

After he made 35 appearances for United last season, it would seem that despite being appointed captain by Louis van Gaal in their recent friendly against Roma, Cleverley will drop down the pecking order with Ander Herrera already arriving at Old Trafford for £28million.

Everton could offer Cleverley regular first team football, both in the Premier League and Europe and it’s thought he would be keen to work with Roberto Martinez following a previous loan spell with Wigan.

The latest reports in the Daily Mail believe Everton are preparing to make an £8million bid.
