According to recent reports, Everton sent scouts to watch Blackburn Rovers attacker, Ben Brereton-Diaz in their game against Wigan Athletic last week.

The Chilean was heavily linked with a move to the blue half of Merseyside during the summer transfer window. Still, the club’s bid of £12 million was too far under Blackburn’s valuation of the attacker, reportedly set at £15 million, leading to the deal failing to materialise [via The Times]

According to the Sunday Mirror, Everton still hold a strong interest in Brereton-Diaz, sending scouts to his recent game away to Wigan Athletic in order to analyse him further [via HITC Sport].

The game eventually ended 1-0 to the home side, with Everton loanee, Nathan Broadhead scoring the only goal of the game to hand his side all 3 points.

The 23-year-old is yet again having a good start to the season, already netting 7 times in his first 15 appearances in the league. He will be hoping to beat his tally of 22 from last season and, in the process, help his side to achieve promotion to the Premier League, currently sitting in 5th but just one point off top spot, Burnley.

Former Blackburn manager and current Sunderland boss, Tony Mowbray, who had coached Brereton-Diaz during his time with the club, was quoted in a post-match press conference, saying: [via Lancs Live]

“You saw what I saw today; Brereton with the ball at his feet is an extraordinary talent”

Recently, it has been made clear that Everton are quite short on attacking reinforcements, only managing 8 goals in 9 Premier League games so far this season. With Brereton-Diaz’s contract running out in the summer, he could be the perfect option for Lampard’s side going forward.
