It’s typical that the minute I talk about a lack of interest in Sandro Ramirez, multiple clubs are tripping over themselves to sign him. According to Mundo Deportivo, SD Eibar have made contact with Everton over Sandro and may have to battle SD Huesca, Elche CF, Real Valladolid, SC Braga and Sporting CP to bring him back to Spain.
The 25-year-old has been on the transfer list since 2018 but no sides were willing to take him off our hands permanently. We could only agree loan deals with buying options that were never matched. That could change this summer, however, as we’re looking to cash in before Sandro’s deal expires in 2021, so we may not greenlight another loan move.
Surplus to requirements
Mundo Deportivo say Carlo Ancelotti has told Sandro that he doesn’t have a place in the first-team, but that won’t come as a surprise given the lack of playing time. The 25-year-old has made 16 appearances in all competitions since joining from Malaga in 2017, but his last outing came in our EFL Cup win over Rotherham (August 29, 2018).
Sandro has only scored one goal in his three years on Merseyside and has spent the last two years in Spain – Sevilla (January 30, 2018 – June 30, 2018), Real Sociedad (August 30, 2018 – June 30, 2019), Real Valladolid (July 2, 2019 – July 20, 2020) – so he wouldn’t have been expecting a reprieve under Ancelotti next season.
Return to Spain?
Sandro has spent the majority of his playing career in Spain – Las Palmas, Barcelona, Malaga, Sevilla, Sociedad and Valladolid – and 66% of the clubs interested in him are from his home country, so Liverpool Echo say a return to Spain looks on the cards.
I argued that Sandro’s £85k-per-week/£4.4m-a-year wages could make it hard for him to find a suitor this summer, so he may need to take a sizeable cut if he wants a permanent move elsewhere. With only four goals in the last three years, Sandro is hardly proving his worth as a prolific goalscorer worthy of such a lofty salary.
