Reserve team manager Andy Holden has praised his side despite losing 2-0 to an more experienced Aston Villa team.

Villa had Ulises de la Cruz, Djemba-Djemba and Lee Hendrie playing.

Holden said ‘The three seniors they had, more so the two in midfield, I thought the way they went about their jobs was excellent and they gave us problems all night,’

Although Everton nearly scored in the first half, and the miss was what might have made the difference:

‘I think if we had got a goal just before half time, then that would have just lifted our spirits a little and given us a carrot to hold on to, but sadly it didn’t happen. It’s a fact that the end of the day if we had taken our chances when they came along, more so in the first half, it would have been a different result because they were the away team and it would have got us up on the front foot. I keep on at the defence that they have got a terrible habbit of going to deep and causing problems for themsleves, but they give you all they’ve got and you can’t ask for more than that.’
