Everton reportedly in talks for £12m centre-back, many fans react: ‘I’d love to see this happen’

Everton are in talks with Chelsea in a bid to lure Kurt Zouma back to Merseyside, according to The Times.

Marco Silva is understood to have demanded that the club acquire a new centre-back this summer, having considered the position an area of his side were another name is a necessity after witnessing Yerry Mina continually be sidelined with injuries following his move from FC Barcelona a year ago.

Phil Jagielka has also left Goodison Park following the conclusion of his contract, leaving Silva facing a new campaign with Michael Keane and Mason Holgate as his only senior centre-backs alongside Mina.

Chelsea, for their part, are yet to show any willingness to sell France international Zouma following Frank Lampard’s appointment as Maurizio Sarri’s successor, but the Blues are alleged to have reached out to the Stamford Bridge natives to sound out a second loan agreement.

It took until Deadline Day last summer to reach an agreement with the Pensioners to take the 24-year-old on loan for the season, with the Blues left waiting until after the window had slammed shut for confirmation that our late move was successful.

A similar scenario could follow this year, with Chelsea unable to sign any new players due to their two-window transfer ban and are thin in their own centre-back department with Antonio Rudiger currently sidelined with a meniscus injury.

While The Times do not suggest how much a loan for Zouma may cost us this summer with the August 8 deadline fast approaching, The Sun claim a deal could set us back as much as £12million.

Given Zouma has spoken openly about wanting to test himself at Stamford Bridge next season under Lampard, some Everton fans reacting to The Times’ suggestion of a loan approach have been hesitant to get overly excited.

Others have called for Director of Football Marcel Brands, and Zouma, to get a deal done, and see that he returns to Goodison Park after starting 29 of his 32 Premier League appearances last season.
