Everton could be set to make a fresh approach for Porto midfielder Fernando.

Fernando was heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park 12 months ago, with Roberto Martinez believing he could have been the ideal replacement for Marouane Fellaini following his move to Manchester United.

The 26-year-old Brazilian’s move was close to completion, but the deal fell through at the 11th hour.

Reports in October linked him with a move to big-spending Monaco with talkSPORT speculating that they could offer him a deal in the region of £80,000-a-week.

But the Daily Star have reported that Everton have been keeping a close eye on him with scouts in Portugal watch both Fernando and Benfica’s Andre Gomes.

20-year-old Gomes is valued at around £13million, although there is said to also be a third party agreement complicating ownership.
