Everton have recalled Matthew Kennedy and Matthew Pennington from their loan spells with League One side Tranmere Rovers.

19-year-old Scottish winger Matthew Kennedy had been with Tranmere since January 9th and had made 8 appearances.

19-year-old English defender Matthew Pennington had been with Tranmere since January 2nd, making 9 appearances and scoring one goal.

With the duo gaining regular first team football with Tranmere, its disappointing to see them recalled to strengthen the development squad.

Of course that’s more than just being able to field a stronger side in matches, it’s also about improving the quality of training for the other lads in the set-up.

But for Kennedy and Pennington, their own development would have only benefited from a longer loan spell.

‘Kennedy and Pennington have been recalled to strengthen their development squad.

‘It is a blow because they’re two very good lads and two very good players.
Tranmere Rovers assistant manager John McMahon told tranmererovers.co.uk.

He continued: ‘A big thank you to the two kids who have been fantastic around the place, it’s a credit to the way they’ve been brought up.

‘And a big thank you to Roberto [Martinez] for allowing them to come out to us.’
