Everton plot £15m swoop for Premier League defender to bolster squad

|

Everton underwent a significant defensive restructure during the summer, bringing in Lucas Digne and Yerry Mina to the club from Barcelona, as well as landing Kurt Zouma from Chelsea on loan for the season.

On top of that, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane have both considerably improved their displays this season and it has given Marco Silva a strong platform to build upon – but there is still work to be done.

According to The Sun (Page 53, 11th January), Everton are looking to launch a £15m swoop for Southampton full-back Cedric Soares as a recruit who could compete with Seamus Coleman for a first-team spot.

The Toffees will find encouragement with the fact that Southampton are ready to sell the 27-year-old during the January window, despite the Portugal international featuring 16 times in the league this season, and he would likely jump at a chance to move to Goodison Park.

Strong in the final third, Soares’ bursting runs down the wing would fit in superbly to Silva’s style of play.
