Much of the Everton fanbase has been embroiled in debate this week after fresh reports emerged on one of their reported transfer targets.

According to French news outlet L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain have informed centre-back Thiago Silva that his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season, leaving him free to find a new club in the summer.

It’s claimed that this has put Carlo Ancelotti on alert as the Toffees eye a swoop for the veteran defender.

The 35-year-old has been at the Ligue 1 champions for eight years and reportedly rejected a pay cut that would have allowed him to stay at Parc des Princes.

Would you take a 35 y/o Thiago Silva at Goodison Park?

100%, YES!

100%, YES!

No thanks...

Silva worked with Ancelotti early in his PSG career and the Italian could see the 35-year-old as the ideal mentor to Mason Holgate with Michael Keane and Yerry Mina failing to inspire so far.

Despite turning 36 in September, the Brazilian has proven he can still cut the mustard at an elite level having played 30 times under Thomas Tuchel this campaign.

He was part of the starting XI that kept a clean sheet against Real Madrid in the Champions League back in September, so he’s certainly still ‘got it’.

I don’t think Everton can go wrong in landing him, should they be able to afford his €305k-per week (£271.5k) wages but there’s no transfer fee involved which is a bonus.

Here’s how our fanbase has been discussing the mooted move…
