Everton midfielder has ‘injured ankle’ and is a doubt for Saturday’s meeting with Watford

|

According to Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo, Andre Gomes is a doubt for Everton’s meeting with Watford on Saturday after suffering an ‘injured ankle’ against Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old was trodden on by Andros Townsend and was forced to go off. There’s a chance he may not return in time for the weekend too.

Gomes played just 45 minutes of football against the Eagles, and his injury could leave Marco Silva with a selection headache. Morgan Schneiderlin is suspended after picking up two yellow cards against Palace and Fabian Delph is currently out of action with a groin injury. It’s bad luck for Silva that his replacements are unavailable.

Liverpool Echo say he’s being assessed by the club and will be monitored this week before a suitable course of action is taken. His return date is currently unknown, but he’d surely have to be taking part in training before the end of the week to stand a chance of making the squad. That means, Gomes has three days to prove his fitness.

Silva is desperate for bodies in midfield, but he may not want to risk playing Gomes too soon and potentially exacerbate the injury.
