Everton make approach for £31.5m-rated international who would revolutionise Toffees – report

|

Everton have approached Paris Saint-Germain for more information on Thomas Meunier’s situation at the Parc des Princes ahead of a summer move, as reported by Le10 Sport.

Meunier had been linked with a move to Goodison Park in January as part of a potential swap deal for Idrissa Gueye, and the club probably should have pursued the deal further at the time to kill any speculation that the Senegalese defensive midfielder will seek a move away in the summer.

The Belgian right-back could be on the market in the next transfer window in his own right, as Thomas Tuchel does not favour him over Dani Alves, and his contract will only have a year to run at the end of the current term.

There’s no suggestion right now of how much Marcel Brands intends to spend on the 36-cap international, but TransferMarkt value the 2018 World Cup star at £31.5million.

A figure in that region would be fairly considerable for someone entering the last 12-months of a contract, but Meunier could revolutionise Marco Silva’s defence, if he is still in charge next season.

At present, the Silva has two reasonably solid options to call upon, but Seamus Coleman has not been at his best for some time, while Jonjoe Kenny has stepped in on occasion and shown himself to be a robust defender, though he is lacking heavily when going forward.
