Everton have been linked with the possible signing of former Celtic and current Greek World Cup hero Georgios Samaras.

The 29-year-old was not offered a new contract at Celtic at the end of last season and is a free agent this summer.

He scored the winning goal for Greece against the Ivory Coast earlier this week, a result which was enough to see Greece qualify from the group stages and advance into the second round.

According to the Glasgow Evening Times: ‘Roberto Martinez has become the latest boss to be linked with the striker’ adding ‘Samaras would represent a cheap deal for Martinez.’

Georgios Samaras made 65 appearances for Manchester City before his £6million move to Celtic in 2008.

Overall he made 249 appearances for Celtic, winning Scottish Premier League titles and experiencing the UEFA Champions League.

However he’s hardly prolific scoring 73 goals in a weak league.
