Everton hero Kevin Radcliffe has urged onlookers to not write off Leighton Baines just yet.
Over the summer it became clear that Marco Silva wanted to sign a young left-back in order to give Baines competition and, indeed, replace him.
Lucas Digne was eventually the man selected to come in, too, and it seems as though he has started well.
Certainly, the French defender looks a bright player with great quality on the ball from the left and plenty of energy – something we have seen from Baines in the years gone by.
He isn’t finished yet, though, with Radcliffe saying there’s no need to bin him just yet.
As quoted by the Echo, he said:
“I wouldn’t surprised to see him return, soon. We haven’t won a league match since he stepped down. And while Lucas Digne has been impressive going forward in the matches he’s played, he has been caught out once or twice defensively.
“Don’t write Leighton Baines off just yet!”
Baines might not be the player he once was but he has immense experience and still has decent quality to offer.
It would be silly to get rid of him already and Lucas can certainly learn from him.
