Turkish international Cenk Tosun has come in for praise from club legend Duncan Ferguson.

With the 26-year-old struggling when he first arrived at the club from Besiktas in the January window as he settled into a new country, adjusted to new teammates as well as building the fitness required for the Premier League, the player has slowly begun catching the eye of fans and he now boasts four goals in ten appearances (eight starts).

He is unfortunately yet to score since proper football returned following the March international break but his work rate and desire saw him clear two headers off the line in the last match against Swansea City to save a bad day becoming worse.

Ferguson told the Official Site that he was unconcerned with that as having now adjusted to the pace of the game in England, he feels given his natural finishing talent it’s only a matter of time before he’s back on the scoresheet.

“He’s a finisher. I’ve worked with players before and he’s a finisher. You know, in the main, if he gets a chance, he’ll stick it in. I think he’s found the pace of the game now. When he was at Besiktas he had a winter break and he came back maybe not quite ready. But we continued to work with him. We had a few weeks prior to when we went out to Dubai and then we trained hard there. We have had a good bit of work since then on the training ground and I think it’s just finding the pace of the Premier League – it’s not easy. But he’s sharpened up and managed to get a couple of goals. We hope that continues.”

Tosun himself has previously said that he’d love to become a ‘legend like Duncan’ and he’s credited Ferguson’s work on the training pitch and words in private for helping him to bring him up to speed previously.

Fans seem fully on board with that having seen his improvement of late, but the key to getting the best out of him is playing to his strengths and giving him the kind of delivery that he can quickly turn into goals.

That ultimately means attacking for the vast majority though.
