Everton legend Favourite to take over at Championship outfit

|

Former Everton interim manager, Duncan Ferguson is now in ‘Pole Position’  to become the new Wigan Athletic manager after Leam Richardson was sacked by the club last week. However, there is plenty of competition for the role.

The Latics got off to a very decent start to the season in their first season back in the Championship after three seasons, only losing 1 of their opening 8 league games.

However, since then, Richardson’s side only managed to pick up 7 points from their next 12 games, leaving them firmly in the relegation zone.

They did, however, manage to win their latest fixture against fellow relegation battlers, Blackpool 2-1 under caretaker manager, Rob Kelly.

According to the Football Insider, Duncan Ferguson is leading the race to become the manager of Wigan Athletic after leaving Everton during the summer.

The Scottsman was first linked with several different management roles after his short spell as Everton manager after the sacking of Marco Silva. During this time, Ferguson’s toffees beat Chelsea at Goodison Park and earned a point away at Old Trafford, before he was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.

Ferguson’s second spell as Everton manager did not end as successfully, however, losing 1-0 to Aston Villa at Goodison Park in his only match as manager, before being replaced by Frank Lampard at the end of January.

Despite having little experience in full-time management, a move to the Championship could be the perfect starting point for a potentially successful management career. Ever since his short spells as caretaker manager at Everton, there have been quite a few questions concerning whether Ferguson will ever manage the club on a full-time basis.

Will Duncan Ferguson ever manage Everton?
