Everton international striker extends Top Scorer status

|

Everton and Venezuelan international striker, Soloman Rondon scored for his country last night in their 2-2 draw with Panama, further extending his status as the country’s all-time top goal-scorer.

The 33-year-old made his debut for the Venezuelan national team as a teenager in 2008 in a friendly against Haiti.

He would score his first international goal just a month after making his debut, netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over El Salvador in an exhibition match.

After performing well at club level for Malaga CF and Zenit Saint Petersbourg, the centre-forward would be selected for the Venezuelan national side for the Copa America in 2015, scoring in the first game of the tournament in his side’s 1-0 victory over Colombia.

4 years later, in a 3-0 win over the United States of America, Rondon surpassed Juan Arango’s goal scoring record for Venezuela of 23 goals.

Since then, he has made 92 appearances for his national side, scoring an impressive 37 goals in this time, with the latest coming in a 2-2 draw with Panama on Monday. He would convert from the penalty spot to score his side’s 1st before they equalised in the 93rd minute.

Athough Rondon remains firmly Venezuela’s all-time top goalscorer, this title does not reflect his time at Everton. He has made 31 appearances for the blues since joining in the summer of 2021, but only managed to score 3 goals, 2 of which would come in the FA Cup 5th round against National League side, Boreham Wood.
