Everton have ‘made approach’ for €25m-rated defender with more tackles than Holgate and Mina

According to Record via Sport Witness, Everton have ‘made their approach’ for Jean-Clair Todibo, asking Barcelona for the terms of a deal. The 20-year-old has an uncertain future at the Camp Nou and could be on his way out this summer. He’s spent the campaign on loan at Schalke 04, but the German outfit aren’t interested in a permanent deal.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams were released in the same transfer window that Matthew Pennington was loaned out, but no replacement was brought in. Carlo Ancelotti has been left with Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Michael Keane at centre-back, so Everton need a new face to accompany the trio.

The Toffees have been linked with Mohammed Salisu, Wesley Fofana, Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly, Thiago Silva, Gabriel Magalhaes, Marash Kumbulla, Christian Luyindama, Issa Diop and Tosin Adarabioyo and Unai Nunez, but Record say the Toffees have already made an approach for Todibo.

As per WhoScored, the 20-year-old has averaged 1.9 tackles per game while on loan at Schalke – more than Holgate (1.7), Mina (1.4) and Keane (1.1) among others – so Todibo could improve the backline next season. His asking price is said to be around €25m, but Sport Witness believe Everton might wait until the season ends before pushing for a transfer.
