Everton great set for League One club

|

According to journalist Fraser Fletcher, former Everton number 9 and Everton’s last interim manager Duncan Ferguson looks set to nail his first managerial job with League One Forest Green Rovers.

After parting ways with Ian Burchnall following the club’s 1-0 defeat to 10-man Bolton Wanderers. The ex-Notts County manager was appointed in the summer following Rob Edwards’ departure to Championship side Watford and since he took over the newly promoted side, Burchnall’s side has only 5 wins in 28 and none since December.

If Duncan is to take over Forest Green Rovers, he will have his work cut out with the team bottom of league one on 21 points having played more games than the teams above them in the table. Having been linked with Wigan Athletic (FootballInsider) in November and leaving Everton in the summer, Ferguson is eager to start his managerial career sooner rather than later.

With Forest Green Rovers bottom of the league and having played more games than those behind them, could this be too big a job for Ferguson’s first? Every manager has to start somewhere and going into a team low on confidence is a difficult task nonetheless, but having played more games they are already playing catch up with the teams above if they pick up points.

If Ferguson does take on the challenge, he could look to Everton’s academy for players to get in on loan, but with only 6 days left of the transfer window, Forest Green needs to act fast. As it would not surprise me with Everton, they will probably try and get Duncan Ferguson back until the end of the season.
