Everton face race against time to bring back ‘main-man’ for Wolves clash

|

Everton’s Dominic Calvert Lewin is closing in on full fitness after suffering a knee injury during his side’s 2-0 loss to Leicester City in November. But Frank Lampard and his staff are facing a race against time to bring their target man back for the boxing day fixtures.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin reignited his Everton career under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring 16 Premier League goals in 33 Premier League matches, helping his side to a 10th-place finish.

However, since the introduction of Rafa Benitez as manager and the Englishman suffering a long-term ankle injury, he has struggled to find any consistency

The 25-year-old only managed to make 17 appearances in the League last season, scoring 5 goals including a winner against Crystal Palace that kept the blues in the Premier League.

He was expected to make a return at the start of the 2022/23 season but was, again, stricken with injury before the season started and would miss the toffee’s opening run of fixtures.

Neal Maupay would be signed from Brighton and Hove Albion to fill in for the injured Calvert-Lewin but has also struggled to find form, scoring just once in 10 appearances.

With Salomon Rondon also terminating his contract at the club last week, Calvert-Lewin will be needed by Frank Lampard’s side more than ever.

In a recent interview, Lampard stated:

“Dom is recovering well.”

“It gives us the potential that he might be available for Wolves.”

“We are hopeful that his various injuries have cleared up and now we have to make sure we get him match fit and ready”

If Everton were to bring their main man back in for their Wolves fixture, it would obviously give them a huge boost.

However, the last time he was rushed back into action before he was completely ready by Rafa Benitez, it just caused more problems.
