Everton defender, Mason Holgate is the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Southampton and the Englishman could complete a move away from Goodison Park in January, according to recent reports

Mason Holgate joined Everton from Barnsley in 2015 and, whilst being involved with the first team, would predominantly play for the blues’ U23 side.

He would make his Premier League debut in August 2016 in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and would go on to make 48 competitive appearances before completing a loan move to West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.

He would return to Goodison Park in the summer of 2019 and make an impressive 27 Premier League appearances during the campaign.

Despite losing his place in the starting lineup under Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez, he would regain it when Frank Lampard took charge, scoring 2 goals and grabbing an assist in his side’s battle against relegation.

However, this season he has been hindered by an injury and only made 4 appearances, leading to him being linked with a move away from the club.

According to the Sunday People, Southampton are interested in signing Mason Holgate after being told he would be allowed to leave in January [via Goodison News]

With James Tarkowski and Conor Coady currently occupying both centre-back spots in the Everton lineup, the 26-year-old is probably surplus to requirements going into the second half of the season.
