Everton Could Offer Ex-City Forward Swift Return to WSL

|

Canadian forward Janine Beckie could be set for a return to the WSL, with the 28-year-old linked with a move to Everton, with Spurs also expressing an interest.

Beckie spent 4 years at Manchester City, but made the switch to Portland Thorns back in April, citing that a return Stateside was the right move for her career, despite reported interest throughout Europe.

However, a frustrating return to the NWSL has reportedly left the forward eyeing up a return to this side of the Atlantic, with Brian Sorensen’s side potentially providing an immediate return to the North-West of England.

A decorated individual, Beckie lifted 2 FA Cups during her time at Manchester City, as well as 2 League Cups and has also achieved international success with her native Canada, winning a gold medal at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Japan.

Indeed, 8 goals in her first 15 games for Manchester City back in 2018, the Canadian is still well thought of at her former club, and no doubt her experience at both domestic and international level could prove to be invaluable for the Toffees.

Indeed, Evertonians will already be all too aware of Beckie’s attacking attributes, scoring a powerful 20-yard drive into the bottom corner of Everton’s goal in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in September 2021.

In the WSL opener played at Goodison Park, the Canadian international had already played her part in the build-up to City’s opening goal, before doubling her side’s lead, picking the ball up on the left-hand side, before running at a retreating Everton defence with intent, cutting inside and finishing with aplomb.

Everton currently sit in 8th place in the WSL table, with Brian Sorensen’s side struggling for form. Could the former Manchester City star provide the Toffees with a much-needed boost in January?
