Everton could land ‘Perfect Signing’ in International defender

|

Everton hold a long-standing interest in Villareal centre back, Pau Torres, who is heading to the World Cup with Spain, according to recent reports

Although Frank Lampard’s side has struggled to find consistent performances so far this season, the centre-back position is perhaps one of the last things that should be on Kevin Thelwell’s mind going into the January transfer window.

Summer signings, James Tarkowski and Conor Coady have been two of the toffee’s star performers this season, with both being touted with a chance to join the England squad for the Qatar World Cup. However, Coady was the only one of the two to make the squad.

They both look to have sealed their places in the Everton starting line-up for (at least) the remainder of the Premier League season. However, both will have turned 30 by the end of February, highlighting the need for Everton to start looking for replacements for the pair.

On-loan centre-half, Jarrad Branthwaite has been performing well on loan at PSV Eindhoven, whilst Ben Godfrey is also seen as having a future in Everton’s back line. But even with these two, they could still do with some more reinforcement in the position.

According to 90min.com, Everton hold a long-standing interest in Villareal centre-back, Pau Torres.

Torres has a £55 million release clause, but the site suggests that the club will ask for upward of £40 million for the Spanish international’s signature.

The 25-year-old has 22 caps for the Spanish national team and has recently been selected as part of the Spain squad going to the World Cup in Qatar next week.

Whilst a bid, if it does come in, from the blues would probably appear in the summer transfer window, the signing of a player of Torres’ calibre would make quite the statement of intent for what is to come from Lampard’s side. With youngsters such as Nathan Patterson and Vitali Mykolenko already making up part of Everton’s defence, this could be another step in the right direction.
