Having already been linked with a move to West Ham this week by Sky Sports, Everton could rival the Hammers for Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.

Iheanacho, who seemed destined for big things at the Etihad Stadium prior to the arrival of Pep Guardiola last summer, and subsequent signing of Gabriel Jesus, has been limited in his involvement at Man City this season as he’s started just five Premier League games.

This had brought about claims of West Ham interest in a £20m deal this summer.

But, according to the Daily Star – citing the Sun – Everton boss Ronald Koeman could make what’s considered a ‘shock’ bid for the Nigerian forward, signing him ahead of West Ham.

A so-called Man City insider was quoted: ‘Everton have shown an interest in Kelechi, who has been frustrated with a lack of game time this season. He is highly-rated here, but has not started a match since January 2 whereas I’m sure he would get lots of first-team action elsewhere. Pep is looking to bolster his ranks and spend a fair chunk of cash this coming transfer window and the club could be persuaded to sell should the right offer come in.’

Iheanacho, 20, is seen as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku should the Chelsea and Manchester United-linked striker leave Goodison Park at the end of the season.

Other reports again credit Everton with an interest in another Nigerian forward, Henry Onyekuru.

Everton are joined by Southampton and West Bromwich Albion in having a desire to sign Onyekuru, 19, from KAS Eupen – his 22nd goal in midweek saw him become the top goalscorer in Belgium.
