Everton battle hard but fall to defeat to Arsenal in WSL

|

Everton women fell to a 1-0 loss to WSL high-flyers, Arsenal in their 8th game of the season, but showed some promising signs.

The toffees’ form this season has seen a fair share of ups and downs so far, with the blues winning 3 and losing 4 of their opening 7 games of the season.

However, Brian Sorensen’s side ran out convincing winners over Blackburn Rovers in their last fixture in the Women’s League Cup thanks to goals from Katja Snoeijs, Hanna Bennison and Jess Park.

Everton have struggled in their efforts to beat Arsenal of late, losing their last 8 games against the Gunnars whilst only managing to score 3 times.

It was clear how the game would play out from the off, with Arsenal having large amounts of the ball and Everton sitting back.

24 minutes into the game, the home side would make the breakthrough thanks to Vivianne Miedema after some early pressure on the Everton goal.

Arsenal would continue to pile the pressure but the Everton backline would hold strong and make it to halftime just 1-0 down and still in the game.

The blues would start the second half a lot brighter, creating a fair few chances through the likes of Park and Beever-Jones in search of an equaliser.

Arsenal would be the ones defending inside their own penalty area deep into the game, but the pressure just wasn’t enough and the toffees would face a trip back to Merseyside empty-handed.

A trip to Manchester to face Manchester United in the Women’s League cup is next on the agenda for the blues and they will be hoping to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Arsenal.
