According to Football Insider, Everton are looking to complete a deal for young forward Joe Gelhardt who is currently at Wigan Athletic.

The Blues have got a proud history of developing young players and it’s always good to see them looking to add for the future, with Gelhardt potentially the next one to come through the door.

The plan, too, according to the report, is to try and snap him up before the start of May, when he turns 18.

Right now, it would cost a lot less to bring him into the club and so the Blues are trying to tie up this deal in the coming weeks.

Wigan, of course, will want to try and stretch things out as long as possible, and that’s easy to understand.

The Latics will surely want to try and get as much money as possible for the young forward and that will mean keeping him past his 18th birthday, which lies on May 4th.

It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out, then, with the report claiming that Everton are not the only side looking at Gelhardt.

Merseyside rivals Liverpool are also thought to be keen and so there could be a battle on to get him, and Wigan may hope that will draw things out past his birthday so they can get a bit more in the way of finance for him.

This, though, is potentially one to watch throughout April.
