Everton and Marco Silva will be hoping for greater consistency now we’re in the 2019 portion of the current campaign and after a very disappointing defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in the final game of 2018, the aim was obviously to return to winning ways in our New Year’s Day encounter with Leicester City as we hosted them at Goodison Park.

After a goalless first half, it didn’t go to plan again for Everton as England striker Jamie Vardy popped up in the 58th minute to score the only goal of the game and send us to another defeat.

Back to back losses but four defeats in the last five and it’s certainly not how Silva would’ve wanted to start 2019.

Although we dominated possession and overall chances on the day, we only got two shots registered on target and that will be another disappointment from a very poor game.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, Silva said of the match.

“It was a strange afternoon for us. It was a disappointing result and not a good performance. We wanted to give good feelings to our fans and we didn’t achieve that. This afternoon, even the simple pass went two metres wrong. When you do that it is impossible to get the creativity and the mobility to create chances to score. We didn’t create much in the first half. But every time we won the ball in the good positions it wasn’t good enough. A lot of easy mistakes and missing easy passes.”

I think Silva’s words say it all when it comes to the showing really.
