According to France Football, Maarten Stekelenburg is on Lille’s radar for this summer transfer window.
The Dutch stopper has had to play second fiddle at the club to Jordan Pickford and after the latter’s performances this summer at the World Cup, you can’t see that changing.
With Stekelenburg getting on, though, you’d forgive him for wanting a move away and it looks as though he could be offered that opportunity with the Ligue 1 side.
He’s had a good career between the sticks but he’s not the goalkeeper he was and he’s not going to be number 1 for our club for the foreseeable.
Hopefully, we’ll have our squad sorted so that he can leave without any real issues because when a player gets towards his stage in their career they want to be playing.
Certainly, I doubt the club will stand in his way unless other factors go against him.
