Dyche Emerges as Favourite for Vacant Manager’s Position

|

Former Burnley manager Sean Dyche has emerged as the favourite to fill the vacant post at Goodison Park, with the Blues set to miss out on number 1 target Marcelo Bielsa.

It has been reported that talks were held between Everton and ex-Leeds United boss Bielsa earlier this week, though the Argentinian manager looks unlikely to replace the outgoing Frank Lampard.

Instead, Everton look to have turned their attention to 51-year-old Sean Dyche, who was sacked by Burnley in April of last year after more than 9 years at Turf Moor.

A popular figure at the Lancashire club, Dyche guided Burnley to a 7th-placed Premier League finish in the 2017/18 campaign, the club’s best top-flight finish since 1974, securing Europa League qualification.

Indeed, after securing European football for the Clarets for the first time in over half a century, a pub in Burnley was renamed in honour of the manager.

Dyche’s name has almost perpetually been linked with Everton’s in recent years, with the club in need of a new manager every 18 months or so, though has so far been overlooked by owner Farhad Moshiri.

However, there is a feel of inevitability this time around, with the Blues in a second successive relegation scrap, slumped 19th in the league and without a win since October’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

The Kettering-born coach is available, and therefore would not require Everton to buy out an existing contract with another club, though he would likely be an unpopular appointment at Goodison Park due to his negative style of football.

Should a deal between Dyche and the club be agreed, the former Burnley man would reunite with a trio of his ex-players in James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Michael Keane.

With suggestions that Farhad Moshiri wants a new manager in place by the end of the week, we could potentially see Dyche in the Goodison dugout next week as Everton welcome league leaders Arsenal.

  • Alex says:

Why not negotiate an immediate interim contract with Mr Bielsa, whereby avoiding relegation guarantees a full contract at the end of the season?

Even when relegation occurs in May, Everton could consider extending the interim contract for the 23/24 season to give him more time to work his magic.

The club must stop changing managers and develop a long-term strategy for financial stability and acceptable results on the field.

Walk before you can run .As a Burnley supporter I would praise SEAN DYCHE who managed with very limited assets and flair players to change team football to more spectator desired entertaining style of football .In other words they played to their strengths with the talent Burnley had .

DYCHE Is a strong manager who will staunch the leakage of goals but will add backbone to the Everton team .He is experienced enough to bring flair into the team given the better players and will not tolerate any prima doners so I would take him in an instant for 2 year contract with an option to renew.Let’s face it his appointment is win/win – he either saves you from relegation or will be very effective in getting you promoted given the worst scenario.
