Kieran Dowell will spend the coming season at Nottingham Forest.

The Everton midfielder, an U20 World Cup winner with England in the summer, has joined the Championship side on a season-long loan.

Dowell, handed his Everton debut in December 2014, twice involved in the Premier League, had been heavily involved in Ronald Koeman pre-season plans and this left the midfielder, who had spoken glowingly about the impact Wayne Rooney has had on him since his Blues return, hopeful of involvement this season.

However, it isn’t to be the case. Well, not at Goodison Park anyway.

A spell in the Championship will allow Dowell, 19, to play week-in-week-out for Forest under a boss, Mark Warburton, who is well known for giving young talent a chance. So, this will help the U23 regular, a member of Everton’s title winning Premier League 2 squad last season, a good platform to develop at the City Ground.

Under contract until 2019, Dowell should, theoretically, come back to Goodison next season ready to push forward his first team chances at Everton and the Blues midfielder will seek to step up the international ladder into the U21, potentially senior, England squad too.

He could make his Forest debut against Millwall on Friday in the Championship meeting at the City Ground.
