“The games gone”, “Get him signed” – Loads of Everton fans react as club hope to conclude £19.5m deal

|

Loads of Everton fans have been reacting on social media to reports by the Telegraph, claiming the club expect to agree on a new five-year contract with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The striker has hit a purple patch of form since the sacking of Marco Silva, with Calvert-Lewin striking the back of the net five times in five games, including three in two under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Club chiefs had been in negotiations with Calvert-Lewin to extend the former England U21 international’s current £20,000-per-week deal for several months, as a reward for his higher status in the senior fold.

The 22-year-old has opened 13 of our 20 Premier League games this season, and only failed to feature in two of our fixtures across all competitions heading into the New Year.

Does Calvert-Lewin deserve a new contract?

Absolutely

Not yet

Calvert-Lewin is now firmly considered to be a starting member of the squad, and one whom Ancelotti has expressed desires to develop, having demonstrated the qualities the club needed to see to believe he can succeed as our striker.

It is understood that the club expect to be able to conclude negotiations over a five-year contract soon, with the Sheffield United product set to see his wage increase to £70-75,000-per-week.

A £75,000-p/w deal over five years would see Calvert-Lewin net £19.5million over the course of his contract, and would make the forward our eleventh-highest earner.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Calvert-Lewin being set to land a lucrative new contract…
