Do not judge Everton by beating Bournemouth

‘So this is what winning feels like I’d quite forgotten.’ said EvertonMike over on the forum following the win over Bournemouth.

A first victory in 8 games, not since the win over the mighty Aston Villa on 1st March had Everton taken all three points.

But the idea that this is Roberto Martinez turning a corner is far from reality. This is a game that Everton should win, quite comfortably 9 times out of 10.

A newly promoted side who have been day dreaming about their summer holidays after avoiding relegation weeks ago.

A side that play a similar style to us (all be it an awful lot quicker and sometimes more direct), but a style where like for like, player for player we should have more than enough to knock them over.

There entire back four played for them when in League One! If we cannot break through that then when will we ever?

‘Really hope the board especially, dont look at these games and judge the side and manager from it.’ Rob-EFC said after the game on the forum, ‘this is players already thinking about the summer, nothing would **** me off more if we finish the season with a couple wins and the board are willing to give Martinez a bit longer’.

And that’s a problem, the planned protests will not clearly show the board that the majority have lost faith in Roberto Martinez.

A plane flying over Goodison Park with the banner ‘Time to go Roberto’ simply shows one person with a lot of money wants him gone.

A post-match demonstration where only 100 fans remain behind again is not showing that this is the majority of fans who believes Martinez has taken us as far as he can.

As ever, even the protests Martinez has tried to turn into a positive.

‘Football is a game full of passion and emotions and I understand what comes when you have not won enough games,’ Martinez told the BBC.

He continued: ‘I can understand we have been through a very painful time but we had high hopes; we wanted to get into the FA Cup final and we have had eight league defeats at home.

‘I cannot hide that it is a real disappointment for all of us, not just me. We want to learn from the mistakes.

‘My intention is to win football games and to be successful and that doesn’t change.’
