Deal reportedly close for exciting Everton star to leave, many fans react: ‘Would be a shame’

|

Many Everton supporters have been reacting on social media to claims Henry Onyekuru is set to join Bayern Munich in the summer having never played a game for the Toffees.

It has long been reported that the Bundesliga giants had an interest in the Nigerian winger, as Fanatik shared back in March that the Bavarian outfit had been scouting Onyekuru throughout the season via his efforts for Galatasaray in the Champions League

Their Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic even contacted our Director of Football Marcel Brands to discuss the possibilities of a move, and was told a deal would set his side back €40million (£35.3m).

Reports in Turkey then spread like wildfire of interest in the 21-year-old, with Borussia Dortmund, Marseille, Monaco, and Sevilla all said to be interested in striking a deal.

Hopes then grew on Merseyside that the 9-cap international would finally be able to obtain a UK work permit this year, if he were to feature in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

He is required to play 75% of his countries fixtures across a two-year period to become eligible, as game time in the Super Lig on loan with Galatasaray does not affect his chances.

Onyekuru striking 14 goals and penning five assists on route to helping Fatih Terim lift his eighth Super Lig trophy, though, has kept the winger’s name on transfer shortlists across the continent, and Sabah now understand Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign the Onitsha-born star.

The fee, though, is far from the €40million Fanatik quoted in March, as it looks like we are willing to say goodbye to Onyekuru without him ever playing for us for €25million (£22m) and allow the Nigerian to move to Bavaria to help fill the voids being left by Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

The deal is not finalised yet, though, and there is still interest from La Liga and one Premier League outfit, according to ESPN reporter Colin Udoh.

But news that Onyekuru may be off to Bayern has led to these reactions on Reddit
