Competition For Keane

Reports have long linked Moyes with a January transfer window move for Spurs striker Robbie Keane. Moyes is desperate to bolster his miss-firing striker line up but now it appears another under pressure manager has joined the race.

O’Leary is looking to add some fire-power for Villa and get a regular partner for summer arrival Milan Baros. Villa and Everton were head to head in the race to sign Beattie, with Villa missing out after a reported ‘strange’ meeting between Beattie and club Chairman Doug Ellis.

However, will Everton win this race? Both clubs are of a similar stature and both clubs are perennial underachievers. I would guess that the move for the Spurs striker will very much depend on where either club is come Christmas. Villa are currently 17th with Everton having just leapfrogged them in 16th. I can’t see the Republic Of Ireland striker wanting to move to either club if they are in any way relegation threatened. However if one or other have pulled away from the basement and started showing signs of competing for a European place, then maybe, just maybe he’d consider yet another club move.

The situation at Villa is worrying as they are reportedly a target for a takeover meaning they could have more spending power than Everton during the transfer window.

Obviously it could all just be paper talk although he has been linked to Villa for what seems like several hundred years now with John Gregory passing up the chance to sign him straight from Wolverhampton Wanderers and then saying he regretted not getting him.
