Cenk Tosun may have found a new club as Everton are willing to agree £8m-£10m transfer

|

According to Sporx, Cenk Tosun may have found himself a new club for next season amid interest from Fenerbahce, Besiktas and West Bromwich Albion, but Everton have been forced to lower their asking price as Tosun’s stock has fallen.

The 29-year-old has been short of form and playing at Goodison Park, so his exit has been a long time coming. We’re still waiting on an offer, however, so he’s no closer to leaving.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

How much are we willing to sell Tosun for?

Sporx say Tosun can leave for £8m-£10m – less than half of what we paid Besiktas in January 2018. The Turkish international earns £3.12m-a-year/£60k-a-week, so he’s cost us nearly £30m in total for 10 goals and six assists from 51 appearances.

The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a lot of clubs suffering a dip in revenue, so it’s even more important to squeeze every penny out of selling deadwood. It may also hamper our chances of getting a lot of money through his sale, however.

Tosun has endured a disappointing stint in England, but Fenerbahce and Besiktas are still keen on the striker due to his impressive output in Turkey.

He scored 44 goals with 23 assists in 122 games for Gaziantepspor (January 29, 2011 – July 1, 2014) and scored 64 goals with 13 assists in 142 games for Besiktas (July 1, 2014 – January 5, 2018). Tosun has also bagged 16 goals in 42 games for the national team, so he’s long shone in his home country.

How close is Tosun to a move?

Not very. Sporx say Fener are looking to replace Lazio-bound striker Vedat Muriqi and have ‘started negotiations’ for Tosun. They say Besiktas ‘want to add’ Tosun to their ranks but have no info whether a bid is on its way. Sporx added that Everton are negotiating with West Brom over a loan or permanent deal, so it’s up in the air where he’ll end up.

Summary

Tosun has no future on Merseyside, but he’s so far been unwilling to leave. The 29-year-old turned down a move to Qatar and Turkey last summer as he wanted to fight for a place at Everton, but will he admit defeat this time?
