Brian Sorensen’s Everton women knocked out of FA Cup

Everton women have been knocked out of this season’s FA Cup in the first round after a disappointing display against lower-league opponents Birmingham City this afternoon.

Going into their 1st round FA Cup tie with Birmingham City at Walton Park, Everton had been on a very good run of form in the Women’s Super League, winning 3 league games in a row, putting them firmly in the race for Champions League football for next season.

Birmingham, on the other hand, are having quite an underwhelming season in the Barclays Women’s Championship, sitting in mid-table at the halfway point in the season.

Sorensen would make a few changes to his side going into the fixture, with first-team regulars Ramsey, Snoeijs and Wheeler dropping to the bench from their 3-0 win over West Ham last week.

Although they would go into the game as favourites, they would play most of the match on the back foot, with Birmingham having the better of the chances.

Beever-Jones would come closer for Everton early in the second half, but Jade Pennock strike on the hour mark, it would be the visitors into the hat for the next round of this season’s FA Cup.

The toffees must now focus on their hunt for a place in Europe for next season in their fight to climb their way back up the WSL table.

Sorensen’s side now face a daunting trip to top-of-the-league Manchester United in their next fixture, which will prove a real test of character.
