Brazil footballing legend Rivaldo has backed Everton’s summer signing, Bernard, to come good again and work his way back into the national setup.

The 26-year-old headed to Goodison Park over the summer as a free agent capture from Shakhtar Donetsk and he now has six starting appearances to his name in our shirt, with four further showings from the substitutes bench as he continues to settle into the club and the area.

Bernard has certainly impressed a fair few fans with the signs he’s already given us on the pitch, and Rivaldo believes that he’ll soon add to his 14 international caps if he continues progressing.

Having not featured for his country since a heavy 7-1 defeat to Germany four years ago, and he was far from alone in taking the flak for that result, Rivaldo told the Daily Star that he backed him to come good again, especially now he was in the spotlight of the Premier League.

“He is already making some impact and can keep improving. He is a small and light player and Premier League is a very physical competition, but he is very talented, and I believe he can make a good career there. This is a very noticed competition, the Premier League, and if he performs well, I think he can join his team-mate Richarlison in the Brazil team soon.”

Bernard hasn’t really got himself going with us just yet and fleeting signs are hardly enough to see him return to the Brazil setup, but with the eyes on the English top-flight compared to the Ukranian league, if he performs well and helps us to rise up the table – with scouts from his country already watching Richarlison – he will catch the eye again.
