According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands remains of the opinion that we do not need a marquee striker up front.

The Blues have got some good players in the squad and even up top the likes of Richarlison have done well but we have missed that big name that’s going to score 20+ goals a season.

Not since Romelu Lukaku have we had that and, put it this way, if he was still in the side we’d be so much nearer the top six.

The report suggests Brands would rather sign another Richarlison type player, though, and see the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin progress, which is far from a certainty in itself.

It’s stubborn, you can see why he might want to do it, but it won’t work.

We need a big name to complete this side, rather than taking a risky approach that’s already seen us left behind in the league.

Failure to act, only leaves us further off of the pace.
