Brands must act quickly as PL heavyweights prepare battle for Everton target – report

|

Marcel Brands will need to act fast if he is to secure the capture of Ajax sensation David Neres, as The Sun understand Arsenal and Manchester United are preparing to battle for his signature.

Neres’ performances on the continental stage this season are said to have attracted the attention of several of the Premier League’s big-hitters, including Chelsea, but the Pensioners’ impending transfer ban continues to weigh over them.

Liverpool have also been reported as holding an interest in the winger, with Jurgen Klopp claimed to be keen on adding yet another forward to his ranks, as fans are concerned by the Reds’ lack of depth at the top of the pitch.

If the Champions League-chasing outfits are stepping up their efforts to sign Neres, we will have to hope Brands was able to hold successful talks with Ajax, having recently made contact with the Eredivisie side over the Brazilian’s availability – as did Arsenal.

When our Director of Football’s contact with Ajax was reported, United’s stance was merely at a monitoring level, however The Sun now understand the Red Devils’ will rival Arsenal in offering £45million for the 1-cap international – Neres made his debut for the Selecao in March.

Borussia Dortmund are also still in the frame, but their €40million (£34.5m) offer is understood to have been rejected, as they line up potential replacements for Jadon Sancho should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer persist on adding the England international.

Neres has scored eleven times this season in all competitions, including strikes against Real Madrid and Juventus, although he did not add to his tally against Excelsior on Saturday in a 6-2 win.
