Towards the end of last week, El Desmarque – via Sports mole – reported that Everton were interested in Real Madrid man James Rodriguez, with Los Blancos apparently looking for £70m in order to let him leave.

The Colombian star has played for some of the world’s biggest clubs in his time in the game and under some of the biggest managers, including under the Blues’ current boss Carlo Ancelotti for a brief period during his loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Can you see it happening?

Yes

Yes

No

A player that won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup for his native country, he is a player of world class standing and, even if this report is wide of the mark, it underlines just how big an impact having Carlo Ancelotti at the club is going to have.

When the Italian arrived, the instant feeling was that, finally, Everton were finding the kind of ambition that had deserted them since the 80s.

In getting the former AC Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea boss in, the Blues’ owners were making a statement that, not only were they serious about spending money, they were serious about getting in the right people to ensure it wasn’t wasted.

Finally, the manager now seems good enough to, not only improve the players the club has spent big money on already, but to also attract even better players, for potentially bigger fees.

This is just one report, but it’s likely to not be the last of this calibre with the current set-up at the helm, and it seems safe to assume that once the summer window is open, Carlo and co. are going to make some serious moves.
