Big January decision could determine Everton’s long-term ambitions – report

|

Everton must decide what is more important, the present or the future, as selling Idrissa Gana Gueye could trigger Marco Silva’s resignation, according to Paris United.

Gueye has been a continual target of Paris Saint-Germain ever since Adrien Rabiot was indefinitely benched by the Ligue 1 giants for rejecting a fourth contract proposal.

The Parisian outfit have recently stepped up their efforts to sign the Senegal international and reportedly lodged a £21.5million bid last weekend, but that was instantly rejected by the Toffees.

Gueye was then claimed to have handed in a transfer request in the hopes of fulfilling his dream of playing in the French capital, but Everton refused to acknowledge receiving any such statement from the 29-year-old.

Yet even that has failed to stop the rumour train, as Paris United are now suggesting that if Everton cave into PSG’s pursuit on deadline day, Silva will resign.

Selling Gueye and waving goodbye to the manager in one day would signal Everton’s acceptance that the future is not on course for the ‘attractive, attacking’ style of play they thought the former Watford boss would bring to Merseyside in the summer, and instead prepare the war chest for the Portuguese’s replacement.
